About me
Hi, I’m Alison, the proud and passionate owner of Knit and Purl!
I launched my small business in 2021 after dedicating over 15 years of my life to fashion retail, working primarily with the Arcadia brand. During that time, I gained invaluable experience as a store manager for both Dorothy Perkins and Burton Menswear, building a career I was proud of. However, when I returned to work after the 2020 lockdown, I gradually came to the realization that my passion for the job had faded. It was a tough decision, but I decided to take a leap of faith, handing in my notice and officially leaving my position at the end of October 2020, ready to explore a new path.
While I had established another business selling lawnmower spares (yes, I know it’s a bit unexpected and quite a contrast!), it didn’t take me long to realize that I would need a more consistent source of income to rely on during the quieter winter months. Being a naturally creative person—something my mum has always affectionately referred to as "arty farty"—I decided to channel my creativity and skills into making high-quality hats and scarves, combining my love for fashion with my artistic side.
In September of 2021, I attended my very first craft show, and since that pivotal moment, I’ve never looked back or regretted the journey I embarked on!
In 2025, I proudly re-launched my website and lined up shows every weekend throughout the winter season.
I couldn't have achieved any of this without the unwavering support of my loving partner, David, my incredible family, and, of course, my three adorable (and delightfully mischievous) cats.

My Products
I carefully select colours and styles that cater to a variety of preferences, using high-quality acrylic wool known for its softness and comfort.
Each item I offer is lovingly hand-knitted or loom-knitted by me, and I take great pride in ensuring every piece is crafted to the highest standard of quality.
In addition to quality and craftsmanship, I am committed to creating pieces that are versatile and functional. Whether you're looking for a cosy scarf to keep warm during chilly winters or a unique accessory to complement your outfit, my designs are thoughtfully made to blend practicality with style, ensuring they effortlessly fit into your everyday life.
